If you've driven past the corner of Frank Lloyd Wright Boulevard and 100th Street lately and wondered what happened to Zipps, here's the short answer: Zipps Sports Grill closed on June 1, 2026, and Bonfire Craft Kitchen & Tap House has moved into the space. Bonfire is a locally owned Arizona sports bar and restaurant, and this is its first Scottsdale location.
We've already been in, and since so many McDowell Mountain Ranch neighbors have asked us about it, here's our initial reaction: We love the deeper menu and that the manager came over to say hello and welcome us. But so far, we’re missing our favorite Zipps Black and Blue burger and their Zipparita - their delicious (and potent!) take on the frozen margarita.

Zipps on Frank Lloyd Wright Has Closed
Zipps Sports Grill permanently closed its Frank Lloyd Wright location on June 1, 2026. The restaurant had been a neighborhood fixture for McDowell Mountain Ranch and Mountainview Ranch residents, just south of WestWorld of Scottsdale.
The space sits in Centennial Marketplace, a roughly 60,000-square-foot retail center built in 2007 with design touches inspired by Frank Lloyd Wright. Your other neighbors there include La Torretta Ristorante, Federico's Mexican Food, Legacy Martial Arts and Horizon Animal Hospital.
After Zipps left, the 5,400-square-foot restaurant space with its patio was listed for lease in June 2026. Bonfire took it over.
What Is Bonfire Craft Kitchen & Tap House?
Bonfire is a small, locally owned Arizona restaurant group, not a national chain. Scottsdale is its third location, joining Surprise (on West Bell Road) and Tempe (on West Warner Road, near Ahwatukee).
The company's CEO, David Lindsley, studied architecture before moving into restaurants after the 2008 market downturn. His family had been making pizza in Michigan for about 40 years, and that background shows up on the menu.
Bonfire got a big boost in April 2024, when Guy Fieri featured it on Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives (Season 39, Episode 5, a Phoenix-area episode).
What's New and Different About Bonfire
Bonfire is still a place to watch the game, but it puts the food first. Here's how it stands apart.
Scratch-made, chef-driven menu. Bonfire says every dish is made from scratch with locally sourced ingredients and Southwestern flavors.
Smoked BBQ and wood-fired pizza. Expect brisket, burnt ends and ribs smoked on-site, plus wood-fired pizzas, flame-broiled burgers, wings and pasta. The Dirty Cajun pasta is one of its best-known dishes.
Scooper fries. Bonfire has an exclusive on a thick, scoop-shaped fry that's part chip, part steak fry. They come with burgers and sandwiches.
Arizona-made drinks. The bar pours draft beer, wine on tap and signature cocktails, with beer from Arizona breweries in the mix.
More to do. At its other locations, Bonfire runs trivia nights, bingo, live music and holiday events, and carries the major sports packages for watch parties.
Still family-friendly. Like Zipps before it, Bonfire positions itself as a neighborhood spot for all ages, not just a bar.
